Driven by his passion for wine, Bibi Graetz is to Tuscany what Chenin is to the Loire Valley: an exceptional revealer!
Nothing predestined Bibi Graetz to work in the world of wine. Born into a family of artists and a graduate of Florence's Academia dell'Arte, his career was a foregone conclusion.
However, in the 90s, Bibi's passion turned to wine. He devoted all his efforts to developing and working the old vines to cultivate his own vineyard. In 2000, he founded his estate in the medieval castle, Castello di Vincigliata, bequeathed to him by his parents. Bibi Graetz has become a key figure in the Tuscan wine world. A winegrower of genius, with a casual touch, he turns his wines into works of art with a perfectly crafted complexity.
Overlooking the beautiful city of Florence, his vineyard, now covering 100 hectares, is cultivated according to organic principles. The vines flourish on the hillsides, giving the wine all the elegance and precision of this exceptional terroir.
Combining these two passions to perfection, Bibi Graetz gives free rein to his creativity, not only in making his wines, but also in designing his own labels, according to his inspiration.
Testamatta Rosso 2016
Testamatta is made from Sangiovese grapes. Made from old vines on mineral-rich clay and galestro soils, this wine is matured for one and a half years in French oak barrels and then continues to age in bottle for a further six months.
Intense garnet-red in colour, this wine has a rich, complex bouquet. Combining aromas of black fruit such as black cherry with a succession of well-defined nuances of baking and toasty notes. On the palate, the balance develops, blending a refreshing hint of acidity with aromas of black fruits and mushrooms and more animal, leather and tobacco notes. Structured by the presence of fine, controlled tannins, these remain silky and leave a long aftertaste.
The vintage is important because this wine can be enjoyed now. It can be enjoyed with a fine piece of meat such as beef, lamb or various game dishes. Rated 98/100 by James Suckling
Colore Rosso 2015
Bibi Graetz's Colore vintage 2015 is a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. Grown on vines over 60 years old on clay and schist soils, this wine is matured in Bordeaux barrels for 21 months and continues its maturation in bottle for a further 12 months.
With its beautiful ruby-red colour, this wine immediately gives us a harmonious bouquet of red fruit followed by delicate notes of spices and cooking on the nose. On the palate, these red fruits develop, thanks to the Colorino, to give way to aromas of blackberries and black cherries accompanied by notes of pepper and dried rose, brought out by the Canaiolo. The tannins are powerful but give elegant structure to this wine, which is typical of Sangiovese.
This excellent cuvée stands on its own, but is perfect with Tuscan dishes or a fine cheese platter. The 2015 vintage is ready to be enjoyed now! Rated 98/100 by James Suckling
